South China Sea Magazine online celebrates beaches, boating, cruises, diving, fashion, property, resorts, swimming and the local sea lifestyle of the magical South China Sea region.
Thanks to an expansion of international cruises from this “Silk Sea” to the world, we’re now covering maritime peace + pleasure on all the world’s silky seas and oceans.
With our parent company South China Sea Macau, we also have a special Macau take on things! Thanks to Macau’s heritage, we’re also privy to the maritime history and traditions of both China and Portugal. This means we appreciate fine Cantonese seafood recipes paired with Portuguese wines.
Being anchored in the Greater Bay Area and on China’s strategic 21st Maritime Silk Road with the Belt and Road Initiative also gives us an excellent vantage to enjoy the bounty of the world’s seas and oceans with unique perspectives.
We were founded by California & Hawai’i journalist Christopher Cottrell in 2011. Our new Chief Executive Officer and Global Commodore Dr. Billy Chan is an avid musician, composer, and philanthropist with decades of experience enjoying the South China Sea region and the good life globally. Our new Chairman and Macau Commodore is wine lover Pedro Lobo, a long term Macau resident of Angolan and Portuguese ancestry with marvelous contacts in the international wine world.
Mr. Cottrell has reported and traveled in the South China Sea region since 1997. He has lived in China since 2003. He has written for Agence France Press, the Associated Press, the Boston Globe, CNN, Fodors, The Guardian, Los Angeles Times, Honolulu Star-Bulletin, South China Morning Post, Reuters, Macau Business, that’s Shanghai, the Beijinger, and Global Times, among others.
Our team dives, sails, snorkels, surfs, fishes, lays on the sands, and savors all the best the South China Sea and the world’s silky seas and oceans have to offer.
We hope they bring you as much peace + pleasure as they bring us!
